FIRST TIME HOME BUYER'S TAX CREDIT OF 2009 President Obama with the approval of Congress, signed into law on February 17, 2009 a new American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) as part of the stimulus package to get our economy going again. The Recovery Act includes a measure to help the first-time homebuyer buy a home and as an incentive you will receive a $8,000 tax credit. This tax credit helps you the qualified buyer, achieve the dream of owning your own home, so instead of looking at the white picket fence, now youcan own the fence. The credit does not have to be repaid unless the home, (primary residence) is not in the purchaser's procession within the three-year period following the purchase. They are restrictions of course, some of which are: - You must not own a home in the last three years
- The property must be bought before December 01, 2009
- Income limit cap at $150,000 on a joint return and $75,000 filing single
- The property must be purchased in the United States.
First time home buyers can now apply the $8,000 tax credit toward their down payment or other closing costs. All eligible first time home buyers can claim the credit on their IRS 1040 tax return on form 5405 due by April 15, 2010. For more information please contact a tax advisor.
